In children, hearing problems affect the ability to learn spoken language, and in adults it creates difficulties with social interaction and at work. Hearing loss has multiple causes, including ageing, genetics, perinatal problems and acquired causes like noise and disease.
How we manage hearing loss depends on the specific cause if known, as well as how severe it is, and what type. Each case is unique. But we support people through adapting to a life of hearing aids, cochlear implants, assistive technology, and closed captioning (subtitles on TV/video)
